British Patent Information Professionals (BPIP) is an informal group of UK-based representatives of organisations which have interests in patent information matters. Started in 1990 as the Derwent UK User Group, and later the Thomson Scientific User Group (TSUG), it has developed into an organisation of professionals who use a range of vendor products and services and have similar professional interests and concerns.
To foster a network of patent information professionals as a forum for sharing knowledge, experiences and expertise, as developed through the application of a wide breadth and depth of skills within the specialism of patent search and analysis.
Individual members are drawn from a range of industry types, including large corporations, public bodies, IP management and search & analytics services. The sectors they cover include chemicals, construction, energy, household appliances, pharmaceuticals, consumer goods, electricals/electronics, engineering, medical devices, heavy industry, marketing & advertising and packaging.
This is a representations of the organisations from which BPIP members are drawn, they are not formally affiliated to the network.
BPIP 51th Meeting
IPO, Newport, South Wales
The BPIP 51th Meeting will be a landmark event, to celebrate the previous 50 meetings. The meeting will be hybrid, with the option of virtual attendance for those unable to travel. It will be a 1.5 day meeting which will also include 1:1 sessions with IPO patent examiners and a celebratory evening dinner.

Meetings are held once a year, usually hosted by one of the member companies, and are coordinated on a voluntary basis by members of the group. Only members are able to to attend meetings. Membership is on an individual basis, and corporate views are not represented in any discussions.
