Our Story
British Patent Information Professionals (BPIP) is an informal group of UK-based representatives of organisations which have interests in patent information matters. Started in 1990 as the Derwent UK User Group, and later the Thomson Scientific User Group (TSUG), it has developed into an organisation of professionals who use a range of vendor products and services and have similar professional interests and concerns.
Our Members
Individual members are drawn from a range of industry types, including large corporations, public bodies, IP management and search & analytics services. The sectors they cover include chemicals, construction, energy, household appliances, pharmaceuticals, consumer goods, electricals/electronics, engineering, medical devices, heavy industry, marketing & advertising and packaging.

The 51st BPIP Meeting took place on 8/9 November 2022 at the UK IPO in Newport, South Wales. It was a landmark event in hybrid format to celebrate the previous 50 meetings after the 50th meeting was held virtually due to the Covid pandemic. It was a 1.5 day meeting including 1:1 sessions with IPO patent examiners and a celebratory evening dinner hosted by Search Technology.
