British Patent Information Professionals (BPIP) is an informal group of UK-based representatives of organisations which have interests in patent information matters. Started in 1990 as the Derwent UK User Group, and later the Thomson Scientific User Group (TSUG), it has developed into an organisation of professionals who use a range of vendor products and services and have similar professional interests and concerns.
Individual members are drawn from a range of industry types, including large corporations, public bodies, IP management and search & analytics services. The sectors they cover include chemicals, construction, energy, household appliances, pharmaceuticals, consumer goods, electricals/electronics, engineering, medical devices, heavy industry, marketing & advertising and packaging.
This is a representations of the organisations from which BPIP members are drawn, they are not formally affiliated to the network.
52nd BPIP Meeting
November 2023 (TBC)
The 51st BPIP Meeting took place on 8/9 November 2022 at the UK IPO in Newport, South Wales. It was a landmark event in hybrid format to celebrate the previous 50 meetings after the 50th meeting was held virtually due to the Covid pandemic. It was a 1.5 day meeting including 1:1 sessions with IPO patent examiners and a celebratory evening dinner hosted by Search Technology.

Conference/meeting feedback, sharing tips/tricks and new features
Talks by members and invited speakers on topics of interest.
From patent information conferences and external meetings, information about new products and patent information courses and qualifications.

Sharing searching tips and tricks: what is the "must have" tool; any new or recently discovered database features.
Opportunity to talk to and connect with patent information sector peers and experts.
New member introductions, membership statistics.
Meetings are held once a year, usually hosted by one of the member companies, and are coordinated on a voluntary basis by members of the group. Only members are able to to attend meetings. Membership is on an individual basis, and corporate views are not represented in any discussions.
